Walker Boots are an alternative to conventional casting materials, which immobilises the foot and ankle at 90 degrees, where the limb doesn’t need to completely non weight bearing.
Most walker boots incorporate into the sole of the walker a wide rocker bottom that is fitted with anti-slip tread, this increases stability and helps to promote a natural gait.
Walking in a walker boot can take getting used to for some patients, it may be appropriate to supply walking aids, such as weight bearing elbow crutches, to ensure the patient is safe until they are more used to mobilising in the boot.
